Annet Nieuwhof
In her PhD thesis Annet Nieuwhof researched rituals in the north of the Netherlands, based on the archaeological finds of the Groninger wierden Englum en Ezinge, from the Iron Age into the Roman period.
Human remains played a big part in rituals. The main part of her thesis deals with the different ways people dealt with the deceased. The amount of finds that can be related to rituals, especially at Ezinge, makes it possible to not only track the changes of rituals through time, but also to explain those changes. They can be understood against the background of the occupational history and the changes in social organisation during the researched period.
